In the CEE, logistics suffers from a global problem of working force shortage

According to Eurologport.eu, Central European logistics has become a part of Pan-European and global trade in many ways. Logistics service providers are involved in multinational production and distribution chains, and the application of modern technology is a part of their logistics services portfolio. However, this global integration brings global challenges too, and so Central European logistics suffers from similar ailments as elsewhere in the world. Today’s industry and logistics in most developed countries call for workers. Qualified and motivated people, high-quality workers who are missing in America as well as in Britain, Germany and also in Central Europe.

For Central European logistics and transport, a rapid development in the past decades is typical. Many companies were built from the scratch others have been founded as branches of established European logistics companies. The growth was enabled by a hunger for logistics services and sufficient skilled work force. However, the surplus of people in the labour market is passé today. The problems are monitored, for example, by the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic.

“The current situation in the labour market is very tense as the resources of domestic workers are exhausted,” says Jitka Hejduková from the Confederation. “This is clearly shown by the data, according to which the number of job seekers fell to the minimum. On the other hand, the growing economy is creating new opportunities.”

Due to the strong demand, logistics companies are giving more opportunity also to the people with lower education, older workers, school graduates, and teenagers. Increasingly, it is obvious for logistics companies throughout the Central European region that preserving competitiveness on the labour market is becoming an increasingly significant problem. Experts expect the shortage people at all levels of logistics will get worse. On the other hand, Central European countries will be able to benefit from the benefits of Eastern European workers for some time. Nevertheless, in the long term, it will be necessary for them to look for solutions in automation, robotization and, above all, the emphasis on good personnel work. We should not forget that although in the world of Industry 4.0 and Logistics 4.0 many things may look and work differently, human work will still be needed.
